One to Watch: Kapset

Story by Tara Madgwick - Friday, 29 August 2014

As a three-quarter brother-in-blood to Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, it was not surprising when her trainer Greg Eurell stepped up to purchase this youngster at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Three year-old Reset gelding Kapset kicked off his career with a dead heat victory at Geelong on Friday.

He jumped well from gate one for Brad Rawiller and led all the way before defying a strong challenge from older rival Mywordsaidthebird to post a dead heat win in the 1200 metre maiden as favourite.

A $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Southern Cross Breeders draft, Kapset runs for a syndicate of owners that include his breeder Bill Giovas, who also bred and sold Pinker Pinker.

Entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas, Kapset is the second winner for Danehill Dancer (IRE) mare Kapala, a half-sister to Pinker Pinker, who won six races and $2.6 million highlighted by a memorable Cox Plate win over Kiwi superstar Jimmy Choux.

Kapala, who resides at Riversdale, has a yearling filly by Mossman and is due to foal to Sebring.
